Oregon House is nestled in the foot hills of the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountain range, right in the heart of the gold rush country. The hills in the area claim a Mediterranean climate and soils which support crops native to the Mediterranean area, grapes, fruit, olives among others. Oregon House is home to four local vineyards which are producing award winning wines, as well as a premier olive oil processor. There are several people producing heirloom organic vegetables for that sumptuous home grown taste. The local livestock industry in the area includes an unusual array of specialty producers. For instance an Italian Water Buffalo Dairy which is producing a delicious Mozzarella di‘ buf (THE original mozzarella of Italy). There is also a local goat dairy supplying a growing soft goat’s cheese market. There are small producers of organic pork, and breeders of many fine breeds of beef who are implementing grass fed beef programs.
Oregon House also is home to many artisans and craftspeople, and the wonderful small restaurant Cafe Collage, serving Mediterranean and North African style foods. The people of this small town are friendly and helpful. Visitors are always welcome. |
