| We discovered this great tough little breed in 1995. We were looking for a small dog breed, to use as a ratter/ mouser, it had to be smart, sharp looking, obediant, need little grooming, not have a lot of genetic defects, not roam, not be hyper, get along with other dogs and have a reputation for being an excellent pet on top of all that (...we weren't asking for much were we?) |
| Why did we want a mouser/ratter? The reason we wanted an effective vermine exterminating dog was because we've been plagued with rats on and off over the years, not only in the barn, sometimes they'd find a way in the house...Yuck!!! And hard to get rid of! We tried cats, we tried poison, they chewed electrical cords, saddles, holes in walls, you name it! Those pesky critters dirtied and smelled up everything.... now we never even see a rat, since the dogs are on duty. We love our rat terriers! They do a great job and meet all of our qualifications; a fun useful breed. |
| We've started collecting breeding stock from all over the states, and bringing them to northern California. We have dogs from North and south Florida, from Alabama, from Louisiana, from Georgia, and from Texas, which we selected for "B" type, disposition, soundness, color and hunting ability. We have minatures which run from 11 to 17 lbs. and toys which tip the scales between 3 and 10 lbs..Believe me, all the trouble we went to, to assemble these dogs, was worth it to us, this is a great looking and doing pack and we are proud to be able to offer their pups for sale. | We like the look of the "type B" or "Teddy Roosevelt" Rat terrier and descided to breed that type, they are a shorter for their body weight and take up less room in a car or the house because of their low center of gravity. This type of rat terrier has less trouble squeezing into small places going after mice and rats,( and besides thier 'hot dog' profile makes them the cutest lil' rat trap you ever saw!) |
